Dark Arts
With Professor Eros
Class Meets Every Wednesday from 10AM - 11:30 am KST
Brace yourselves! You are now entering the realm of darkness as Eros, God of Lust, Love, and Infatuation, will be your guide as you Defend yourself against the Dark Arts. Eros has taken the reigns over from Hades and will adequately prepare students to face the world beyond the safety of Sedgewick's castle walls. Study and learn how to attack and defend yourself against all aspects of the Dark Arts, including dark creatures, curses, hexes, jinxes (dark charms), along with preparation and training in dueling.
This semester, Defense Against the Dark Arts will continue building upon the foundation set in the previous semester with Professor Hades. We will continue our exploration of spellwork, covering more offensive spells and getting into the basics of curse theory. We also will look at creatures with practical defensive uses and the psychology behind the Dark Arts and those who have been consumed by it.
Class Rules that must be followed
Please Note, Any Rule that is broken will result in either loss of house points and/or firm disciplinary action. We are here to learn, not jerk around.
1) Please be sure to set an alarm for class. I don't want anyone running you down and reminding you constantly to come to class. It's your responsibility.
2) a. You may enter class 10 minutes early, but no earlier than that, therefore
b. Anyone arriving after 10 minutes from the start of class will be marked down as late with only +25 points instead of the usual +50 for attendance.
c. If you arrive anytime after 30 minutes of class has begun, you will be marked down as late with only +10 points rewarded for attendance unless they hand in a ticket for the full +50 points.
3) If you cannot make it to class, please dm the class page at least 1 hour before the start of class for an excused absence. You may hand in an absentee ticket at that time or you have until 6 hours after class to submit a ticket for the full +50 points. If you are out of tickets, you will have an excused absence, but you will not be rewarded any points. Any student that fails to notify me of their absence will be marked down as an unexcused absence and will lose -10 house points. No excuses.
4. Keep it classy. No dumb, childish, or disruptive nonsense in the classroom or else I'll kick you out. Arguing, Fighting, drama, talking back or being a smart-mouth, etc.. keep that outta here. I don't have patience for that and it will get you nowhere.
5. Socializing in the class chat outside of an active lesson is a violation of rules and will cause you to lose house points. Take it to the great hall.
6. Since this is a morning class, feel free to bring in healthy snacks, coffee, water, or drink as long as you clean up after yourselves.
7. You are more than welcome to use your abilities in the class as long as it is safe, don't break anything, and you aren't disrupting lecture or hurting anyone.
8. No PDA or goofing off in class. We can have a little fun, but we came here to learn. Remember, you chose this class, so show some enthusiasm and participate. Although this class covers informative topics that will require you to react to posts, please do participate as much as you can. If I see at any point that you do not participate or at least show you are paying attention to class, I will dock attendance points for failure to engage in classroom activities. If you know you will not be active during class time, please submit a ticket or reach out to me in advance so something can be arranged.
9. If you need help with anything or are confused with any of the lessons or homework, please feel free to contact me outside of class. If you have any questions, dm privately and we'll discuss it later.
10. GOLDEN RULE: Respect me and your fellow classmates, and the respect will be given back mutually.
What you need:
N O T E B O O K S
Preferably 2 of these. One to record notes in, and the other to fill with dark spells or potion mixes. We may have assignments and tests (usually after an entire lesson is complete) that drop house points you can gain that go toward your house group.
The amount of house points you gain will vary depending on the difficulty of an assignment/task/test given so make sure you take notes and keep them top notch and up to date to help yourself when studying. It is best to use shorthand or condense your notes so you can summarize the important points for each lesson.
A P P S
Canva is an app we use quite regularly to create posters and card designs for any future assignments. There are many apps you can use but I do recommend this one if you are comfortable although you can use google documents or a padlet. Use what is best for you when presenting assignments.
W A N D
Not all students will have dark abilities or magic, so to be fair and ensure we all start at the same level we will be using wands. Projecting magic or abilities through a wand will save a lot of energy and will provide better control. There are two guides about wand woods and wand cores on Pottermore if you want to find out what your wand truly means.
